Section 1

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device when you visit. They let the site remember things about your visit, such as your consent choice. Similar technologies, such as local storage and tracking pixels, work in the same way, and this policy covers them too.

Some cookies are essential for a site to work. Others are optional, for example those that measure how many people read a page or that support advertising. In the UK and the EU/EEA, optional cookies may only be set with your consent.

Section 2

How we use cookies

Caskable (caskable.com) is published by Caskable Limited, a company that is in the process of being incorporated. We keep cookies to a minimum. When you first visit, a consent banner from Cookiebot asks what you accept. Until you choose, only strictly necessary cookies are used and all optional categories stay switched off.

Cookies on Caskable fall into four categories:

  • Necessary. Required for the site to work, such as remembering your cookie choice. These cannot be switched off.
  • Preferences. Remember settings you have chosen, such as a display option.
  • Statistics. Help us understand how readers use the site, such as which pages are read. Set only if you accept them.
  • Marketing. Used to measure or personalise advertising. Set only if you accept them.

Our site is built so that analytics and marketing tools do not run until you agree. Your choice also controls the consent signals we send to Google services (analytics storage, ad storage, ad user data and ad personalisation), all of which default to denied.

This policy applies to everyone who visits Caskable, wherever you are. Section 6 explains the UK and EU/EEA rules we follow.

Section 3

Cookies we set

The table below lists the cookies set by Caskable itself and by our consent tool. Cookies set by optional services appear here and in the live declaration below only once you have accepted them.

The full, automatically updated list of every cookie found on this site, with provider, purpose and expiry, is maintained by Cookiebot and shown in the cookie settings panel (see section 5).

Section 4

Third parties

Some features load content from other companies. When that happens, their servers receive technical information such as your IP address and browser details, and they may set their own cookies under their own policies.

  • Cookiebot (Usercentrics A/S). Provides the consent banner and records your choice.
  • Google Fonts. Our typefaces are loaded from Google's font servers, which receive your IP address and browser details.
  • Affiliate and retailer links. If you click a "Buy" link on a review or guide, the retailer's site may set cookies to credit us with a referral. We do not control those cookies. See the affiliate section of our terms.
  • Analytics and advertising services. If we add tools such as Google Analytics or an ad network, they will run only after you accept the matching category, and we will update this policy and the cookie declaration.
Section 5

Your choices

You can change or withdraw your consent at any time, as easily as you gave it. Use the button below to reopen the cookie settings.

You can also control cookies in your browser. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies, or browse in private mode. Blocking all cookies, including necessary ones, may stop parts of the site working, and you may be asked for your consent again on your next visit. Deleting cookies removes your saved consent choice.

Section 6

Legal basis: UK and EU/EEA

Strictly necessary cookies are exempt from the consent requirement because the site cannot work without them. For all other cookies we ask for your consent first, wherever you are. The rules differ slightly between the UK and the EU/EEA:

United Kingdom. Storing or accessing information on your device is governed by regulation 6 of the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003 (PECR), which requires clear information and your consent, except for cookies that are strictly necessary. Where cookies involve personal data, we process it under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018, relying on your consent under Article 6(1)(a). The regulator is the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), which you can contact at ico.org.uk.

European Union and EEA. Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive (2002/58/EC), as implemented in each country’s national law, requires your consent before non-essential cookies are set. Where cookies involve personal data, we rely on your consent under Article 6(1)(a) of the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR), which also applies in Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein through the EEA Agreement. You can complain to the data protection authority in the country where you live or work, or where you believe a problem occurred, for example the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet).

Your rights, including access, correction, erasure, objection and the right to withdraw consent, are described in our privacy policy.

International transfers. Some of the services mentioned above are run by companies outside the UK and the EEA, such as Google in the United States. Where personal data is transferred, we rely on an adequacy arrangement (such as the UK–US data bridge or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, where the recipient is certified) or on standard contractual clauses.

Section 7

Changes and contact

We may update this policy when we add or remove services that use cookies. The date at the top of the page shows when it was last changed, and the version note says what changed. If a change affects your consent, we will ask you again.

Questions about cookies or your data can be sent to hello@caskable.com. Caskable Limited is being incorporated, and we will add its registered number and registered office address here once they are issued.
